“Please inflate the bill by Rs. 50,000 and give that amount by cash to me as my personal commission. This should not be known to the Managing Director.”
While this was not the first time he had received such a request, the Sales Manager was shocked!
The person making this request was the Purchase Director, who was the Managing Director’s brother.
Most importantly, the Sales Manager was a very close friend of both the brothers.

This has happened with me, won’t name the org but all I’ll say is they are a govt. org. I was told to inflate the bill two fold & no qts would be asked as that person was himself in charge and oh if I wanted I could add 2% more for myself. I walked out from the office and informed my boss. He laughed & said I had missed a chance to make some money at the side & this happened every where. Shortly later I quit the company.
The Sales Manager was shocked because the Purchase Director was cheating his own brother, and he (the Sales Manager) was a close friend of both the brothers.
Who says it is a ‘bribe’ ? If no pay no get business: according to him ‘no loss’ is incurred as the bill is to be inflated in order to ‘compensate’. in hawala jargon this is considered ‘over invoicing’ and that happens to be an ‘internationally accepted’ corrupt practice!
Kahani har organisation ki. Search for one and you will find hundreds.
It is very common to find people asking for bribes/commission.
It is not uncommon to find a man cheating his own brother.
Here, the Purchase Director was cheating his own brother, and he (the Sales Manager) was a close friend of both the brothers.
Apparently he was no “Bharat’ or ‘Laxman’.
Agreed 😀
We live in a country of cons !! Everybody is interested in minting money, by hook or by crook..
Exactly..!
ha!! Why am I not surprised that this was a real incident?!
We have corruption at all levels sadly..
